The Facilities at Northern Cross

Northern Cross has on-site facilities to entertain your kids and offers you some of the conveniences of home, including:
  • a 24 x 36 foot shower house that has 5 individual coin-op shower rooms with fiberglass shower stalls (including a 48" family/accessible stall) and washrooms complete with ground fault plugs for shaving or drying your hair.
  • a family room and lounge area including games, books, puzzles, toys and free family videos for those occasional rainy days;
  • a convenience store stocked with groceries for those of you who forget to pack something, fishing tackle for the angler in your family, souvenirs for the special someone who had to stay home and treats for folks with "holiday sweat tooth;"
  • a "Little Tikes" play park nested among the trees; including a castle, play house, rockers, slides of all sizes, activity centre, pirate ships and toddler swings, swings and teeter totters for your larger kids;
  • a fire pit or fire pedestal and picnic table at each cabin and campsite with wood at only $10 per quad trailer load for fireside "sing songs" and "story telling";
  • a large lawn with picnic tables for playing volleyball, horseshoes, croquet and soccer for the recreation enthusiasts in your family;
  • almost a kilometre of soft blonde beach that is cool to the feet on a hot summer day and there are acres of sand to build castles or lounge around - it is the second largest beach in Meadow Lake Provincial Park;
  • a large beach side picnic area that has a picnic shelter, fire pits, tables, change house and washrooms;
  • boat rentals including 2 17 foot Alumarine Boats with console steering and 2004 40 HPR Yamaha Motors for those folks who wish to give fishing or touring the lake a try;
  • dock and a boat launch;
  • filleting table for anglers who like to keep a few for a fish fry;
  • and we recently renovated our campground from top to bottom.
Nearby Facilities

Meadow Lake Provincial Park and area offer many recreational experiences and nearby conveniences.
  • In the Park there are a wealth of natural things for your family to do, including: visiting the interpretive centre at Greig Lake, horseback riding at Vivian Lake, canoeing or rafting on the Waterhen River or the many small undeveloped lakes, participating in one of the many Park programs, touring the 250 km of forest roads and hiking on the many developed and undeveloped trails.
  • In Goodsoil there is a banquet facility (if your planning a wedding or reunion), an entertainment centre, a mini-golf course, two grocery stores, three restaurants, a Hotel/Motel with a great small town pub with a Friday Steak Night and with a new 6 room motel for short stays and ice fishing trips, a Credit Union and a service station with automotive mechanics.
  • Within a short and scenic drive there are 5 Golf Courses: Northern Meadows - a meticulous kept privately owned golf course that will open it's back nine this spring (5 minutes); a challenging 9 hole course at Loon Lake (40 minutes); an 18 hole course at Meadow Lake (50 minutes); a championship 18 hole course on Cold Lake's air base (55 minutes); and a 9 hole course at Cold Lake (50 minutes).
  • At Cold Lake there are: large retailers such as Walmart, Canadian Tire, Zellers, and IGA; a Famous Players Theatre with four screens; many restaurants including everything from fine dining to fast foods like McDonald's, KFC and A&W; a CIBC, Bank of Nova Scotia, Toronto Dominion, Royal Bank AMT and a Credit Union; and there are numerous small shops and boutiques offering friendly personalized service.
  • However, even though Cold Lake is only an hour drive, by the time one gets organised, travels there, shops around and travels home a good portion of your day is gone. We keep a well stocked store with most of the items that you might run out of at reasonable prices and you can send the kids. And if we don't have it Goodsoil most likely will. PS Our candy, ice cream, chips and pop and slushies are priced the same as at the big city convenience stores.
  • The Goodsoil Co-op Store and Martins Store are very well stocked: they have fresh fruits and veggies; frozen meats, veggies and fast foods; hardware, automotive supplies and propane; books and magazines; beer, wine and liquor; and many other items priced a bit higher than the aisle price at many city grocers - minus the hassle and the stress.
